D*Face (aka Dean Stockton) is a London-based sculptor and stencil artist, who uses the city as his own personal gallery. Known for its subversive nature, his work challenges our expectations by overturning iconic imagery and introducing us to his own bizarre characters and creations.
Growing up in London, D*Face had a childhood interest in graffiti, and as a teenager was drawn to the street culture and imagery associated with skateboarding. Other strong influences included Henry Chalfant’s coverage of New York subway graffiti.
Following a degree in Illustration and Design, D*Face went to work at creative agency, but was disillusioned with it and continued to pursue his own work on the side. Eventually his personal work eclipsed his paid work and he left his job to concentrate on his artistic ambitions.
He held his first major London solo exhibition, Death & Glory, at the Stolenspace gallery, which sold out in October 2006, followed by a number of other successful shows, notably Eyecons at O'Contemporary in Brighton in 2007, Apopcalypse Now at Black Rat Press in London in 2008, Over me, Over you at Metro Gallery in Melbourne Australia in 2012 and most recently The New World Disorder at StolenSpace gallery in 2013.
